How do you like to cook your spaghetti squash?
Interestingly enough, spaghetti squash contains fat. Not just any type of fat though. It contains the essential fatty acid Omega-3; which we would normally get from fatty fish or a supplement. 1 cup of cooked spaghetti squash offers ~300mg of Omega-3 in the form of Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA).
There are three primary Omega-3 fats that we get from our diet including: Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), and Do
cosahexaenoic Acid (DHA). Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for total Omega-3's is 650-1350mg for every 1000 calories consumed. However, the RDI for EPA and DHA is 500mg/day; which you can get by eating 2-3 servings of fatty fish per week. DHA has been shown to have may neurological and neuroprotective effects including improved short term & working memory, reaction time, attention, and processing speed.
