Fenugreek - The muscle prof

Fenugreek:
Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas in response to the ingestion of carbohydrates (CHO). Natural supplements such as Fenugreek, Ashwagandha, Chromium, Cinnamon, Tumeric, and Ginkgo Biloba have shown promising benefits in exercise and sports performance. In regards to Fenugreek Extract, which can be found as a dietary supplement, herb, or seed, has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity and reduce hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar) (A Eidi et al., 2007)
.

Based on data from the University of Montana, consuming dextrose (sugar) with the addition of 4-Hydroxyisoleucine, which is the active compound in Fenugreek extract that has been proposed to increase insulin sensitivity, resynthesized muscle CHO storage an average of 97.0 mmol/kg versus the dextrose group at 52.5 mmol/kg 4 hours post exercise (Rudy et al., 2007). This could be a beneficial supplement when on a high carbohydrate diet, when trying to resynthesis glycogen between workouts, going through periods of "refeeds" or periods of increased carbohydrate intake.
