What is your favorite cut of beef and how do you like it prepared?
In many bodybuilding diets red meat is a staple, but do you know why? Research out of my lab compared whey protein concentrate to beef protein isolate. We found that after 8 weeks of high intensity resistance training both groups gained the same amount of muscle and strength. We attributed this to the similar concentration of essential amino acids (EEAs) in both beef and whey protein. We know that essential amino acids (including leucine) are responsible for increasing muscle protein synthesis, which may be the cause of the increase in lean muscle and strength.
