What occurs as you adapt to your fat loss cardio program?

The intensity to optimize fat loss is strongly based on your fitness level. A low intensity for a leaner person, may be a higher intensity for a person with more body fat. Therefore, as you become leaner, increase your training intensity to continue to lose fat!

This week we have discussed the positive effects of cardio & fat loss, but there may be some negative consequences of too much cardio.
-
Although cardio increases fat loss, too much may inhibit your ability to make gains. Therefore, if your goal is to get shredded, use cardio. If your goal is to gain muscle, then be very selective with your cardio.
-
What does this mean? If you are in a "building phase," then limit your steady state cardio to about 2 days/week. If you are trying to stay relatively lean during your building phase, then supplement the extra cardio with HIIT training! This can actually help you build muscle!

Failure training occurs when you have fatigued in a set to a point where you can no longer lift a given weight. Failure does serve a benefit. One of those benefits is that it increases muscle activation drastically. Thus, failure can be beneficial but as you will see cannot be overused.

Forced reps occur when you can no longer lift a weight and your partner assists you with a few additional reps. While forced reps are a great tool for growth you should realize that it causes a lot more fatigue. Thus, plan in at least one extra day of rest after using forced reps.

Cannon balls are one hell of a ride when it comes to busting through plateaus. Heres how you do it!
Begin with a weight you could lift for 50 reps
Lift it for 10
Go up about 10% and lift that weight for 10 reps
Continue until you can no longer go up and hit 10

Start over with initial weight
Repeat process until the original weight cannot be lifted for 10 reps
